MINISTER OF CULTURE AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT MOURNS THE PASSING OF TOBAGO-BORN VOCALIST AND CULTURAL ADVOCATE,MRS. KAY ALLEYNE-MELONEY

Port of Spain – The Ministry of Culture and Community Development joins the national community in mourning the loss of Mrs. Kay Alleyne-Meloney, a daughter of the soil of Tobago, a talented vocalist, and a beloved figure in the cultural and creative arts sector of Trinidad and Tobago.

Known for her distinctive voice that touched many, one of her notable achievements that captured hearts across the region was winning the 2007 Digicel Rising Stars competition. Her artistry transcended genres, from gospel to jazz to rhythm and blues, always anchored in a message of hope, faith, and pride in her roots.

Beyond her vocal brilliance, Mrs. Alleyne-Meloney was also the Chief Executive Officer of KPAA Production Company and a quiet force behind several creative projects. She used her gifts not only to entertain, but to uplift others and nurture emerging talent within communities. Her contributions to national cultural expression, especially in moments that demanded spiritual and emotional connection, such as the COVID-19 lockdown, reminded many of the healing power of the arts.

In reflecting on her life and legacy, the Honourable Michelle Benjamin, Minister of Culture and Community Development, remarked, “Mrs. Alleyne-Meloney was a remarkable talent whose presence will be deeply missed. She made meaningful contributions to our cultural landscape and her voice was truly one of a kind. Too often, we fail to fully recognise the value of our cultural gems until they are gone. It is our hope that her legacy will continue to serve as a powerful reminder of the exceptional talent and creative potential that exists within our people. On behalf of my Ministry, I extend sincerest condolences to her family, friends, colleagues, and all those whose lives were touched by her light and love for culture.”

May her voice echo on in memory and her legacy continue to inspire.
