The Prime Minister’s Best Village Trophy Competition welcomes you to the Heart of Culture. I am Best Village, You are Best Village, We are Best Village. The Best Village Programme was founded on a powerful idea that emerged over 63 years ago- that the people of Trinidad and Tobago possess a culture so rich, diverse and vibrant that it must be preserved, celebrated and passed on to future generations.

In 1963, subsequent to Trinidad and Tobago gaining its Independence, Dr. Eric Williams toured communities across the country. In village after village, he was welcomed with song, dance, traditional cuisine and handcrafted gifts. This experience affirmed that culture lives within our homes, our voices and our daily lives. From this realisation, the Prime Minister’s Best Village Trophy Competition was established as a national movement, one designed to preserve our heritage, empower communities and strengthen the cultural identity of Trinidad and Tobago.

Decades later, the Prime Minister’s Best Village Trophy Competition remains a platform to nurture talent, build community and celebrate the unique traditions that define us as a people. It continues to create opportunities for generations of Trinidad and Tobago’s artistes, performers and cultural practitioners to showcase their gifts while keeping our rich heritage alive. The Ministry of Culture and Community Development remains committed to strengthening and sustaining this national stage, recognising that investing in culture is an investment in stronger communities and a stronger nation.
